The story of Stéphane Ogier's Le Passage 2017 begins on a granite terroir, near Malléval, in the heart of the Saint-Joseph appellation.
The vineyard, planted exclusively with 30 year old Syrah vines, is worked according to the principles of sustainable viticulture. Harvesting is done by hand, with meticulous sorting at the plot and at the winery. Juices are then vinified in thermo-regulated stainless steel vats before maturing for 18 months in oak barrels (10% new barrels).
Produced from a 100% Syrah blend, the Saint-Joseph Stéphane Ogier Le Passage 2017 has a magnificent garnet red colour with purplish tints.
On the nose, it releases a fine and elegant bouquet of ripe red fruits as well as spicy notes of pepper and liquorice.
On the palate, the Saint-Joseph Stéphane Ogier Le Passage 2017 offers a moderately full-bodied attack followed by a round, velvety mid-palate bursting with red fruits and supported by a silky, well-worked tannic structure. Floral and spicy notes then emerge behind the powerful fruit aromas, growing to a long and deliciously liquorice finish.
Although in its prime youth, the Saint-Joseph Stéphane Ogier Le Passage 2017 is already ready for tasting, but still has good ageing potential. It will be the perfect accompaniment to grilled beef, poultry or a leg of lamb with garlic.
