Founded around 1770 by the Demay family under the name of Sertan, the Vieux Château Certan is, according to experts, the oldest known estate of the Pomerol appellation.
Located on the right bank of the Bordeaux region, in the Gironde department, its vineyard, in one piece, covers an area of 14 hectares and is planted with 60% Merlot, 30% Cabernet Franc and 10% Cabernet Sauvignon.
Despite its absence in the 1855 classification, Vieux Château Certan is nevertheless recognized worldwide as one of the greatest wines in the region, like the legendary Pétrus.
After vintages 2015 and 2016 placed under the signs of the sun and hedonism, the 2017 vintage was marked by a longer maturation cycle.
Due to its location, and unlike 3/4 of the Bordeaux vineyard, the Vieux Château Certan vineyard was not affected by the April frost and was therefore able to benefit from an "early and early maturing" vintage.
Built around a blend predominantly Merlot (81%) with Cabernet Sauvignon (14%) and Cabernet Sauvignon (5%), the Vieux Château Certan 2017 has a beautiful deep purple colour with a subtle garnet-tinged edge.
Rich, ample and complex, the Vieux Château Certan 2017 distills a splendid bouquet, full of juicy and ripe black and red fruit aromas (raspberries, blackcurrants, blackberries, cherries) wrapped in elegant fragrances of cocoa, flowers and smoke.
Medium-bodied and incredibly concentrated, Vieux Château Certan 2017 releases incredible freshness. Its fine and ripe tannic structure coats the aromas of black and red fruits and lines the inside of the cheeks, until revealing an impressive finish, as much by its length as by its extraordinary freshness.
The Vieux Château Certan also produces a second wine: La Gravette de Certan.
