Ranked Second Growth of the Médoc since 1855, Château Léoville Poyferré was born in 1840 following the marriage of the daughter of the Marquis de Las Cases with the Baron de Poyferré de Cère, who simultaneously took over a beautiful part of the vineyard.
The Château Léoville Poyferré vineyard extends over an area of 80 hectares in the heart of the Saint Julien appellation in Gironde. It is planted with 61% Cabernet Sauvignon, 27% Merlot, 8% Petit Verdot and 4% Cabernet Franc.
Château Léoville Poyferré 2017 is produced around a blend dominated by Cabernet Sauvignon (68%) and Merlot (27%), completed by Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot (3% and 2% respectively).
In the glass, Château Léoville Poyferré 2017 has a beautiful dark purple colour, almost black, and distills an intense nose of black fruit, loaded with tons of black currants, black cherries, blueberries and notes of burnt wood. After some agitation, floral notes of lavender appear, accompanied by spicy and mineral notes of limestone.
Medium-bodied, Château Léoville Poyferré 2017 offers a very elegant and concentrated palate. The black fruit aromas are coated in a supple and velvety tannic structure that stretches over the palate to reveal a finish filled with mineral flavors with a remarkable length.
