Second Cru Classé
Château Léoville Las Cases 1986 is a Second Cru Classé of the Saint Julien appellation composed of a blend of Merlot, Petit Verdot, Cabernet Franc and Sauvignon as well as Malbec.
The late Michel Delon (owner of the Château at the time) always thought that the 1986 vintage was the greatest he had ever produced, above the great 1982 !
Château Léoville Las Cases 1986 has a very slightly amber black/purple colour on the edge of the glass.
On the nose, it reveals extremely ripe black fruit aromas (notably blackcurrant) as well as notes of vanilla, minerals and various spices.
On the palate, the Grand Vin de Léoville du Marquis de Las Cases 1986 is full-bodied, well defined and shows an extraordinary concentration ! Ripe black fruit aromas intermingle with notes of cedar wood and bloom on the finish revealing notes of spice and graphite.
Château Léoville Las Cases 1986 is just entering its plateau of maturity. It is ready for immediate tasting but it still has decades of life ahead of it!
