Château Lagrange: its history, its terroir, its prestige.
Château Lagrange is a prestigious estate located on the left bank of Bordeaux, in the center of the Saint-Julien appellation, in the Médoc area. This wine estate is classified “3rd Grand Cru Classé 1855” and is therefore one of the best wines of Bordeaux.
At Château Lagrange, 107 hectares are used for the production of the red wine. 67% of this area is occupied by Cabernet Sauvignon, 28% by Merlot and 5% by Petit-Verdot; for an average vine age of around 40 years.
11 hectares are dedicated to the production of their white wine: there is 80% Sauvignon Blanc for 10% Sauvignon Gris and 10% Sémillon.
In total, the estate covers 118 hectares in one piece and produces 4 Cuvées; The Pagus de Lagrange, Les Fiefs de Lagrange, Les Arums de Lagrange in white, and the first growth: Château Lagrange.
Château Lagrange: a great 2020 vintage
In 2020, it is the Merlots that are particularly good at Château La Lagrange: the berries are small and very rich, rather than waterlogged, which allows a nice concentration of aromas.
This strong expression of Merlot will allow a pleasant tasting of this vintage from its youth, but it still can be kept for many years without problems, thanks to the tannic structure brought by the Cabernet Sauvignon, which is very present.
In summary, Le Château Lagrange 2020 is fresh and rich: a wine that expresses its terroir and its property wonderfully.
