Founded in 1811, Château Cos d'Estournel enjoyed incredibly rapid success and development thanks to the extraordinary quality of its wines, enabling it to export far away, as in India.
It was these exports that would have encouraged the owner, Louis Gaspard d'Estournel, to surmount his cellars with exotic pagodas, thus giving the estate its current identity.

Located in the heart of the Saint Estephe appellation, near the Gironde estuary, the vineyard of Château Cos d'Estournel extends over 91 hectares of gravel and limestone clay. The estate is planted with four grape varieties, about 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 40% Merlot and a few small parcels of Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot.

The difficult weather conditions of 2017, particularly the frost at the end of April, spared Château Cos d'Estournel but the lack of rain in June could have caused the most fragile vines to suffer. Fortunately, the advanced age of the vines (55 years old on average) allowed them to resist this hydric stress which lasted until the end of the month and seems to have had the effect of the formation of small thick-skinned berries.
In a way as unpredictable as exceptional, these extraordinary conditions have been particularly positive for the property, which has produced an incredible 2017 vintage!

Château Cos d'Estournel 2017 is a blend dominated by Cabernet Sauvignon (66%) and completed with Merlot (32%), Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot (1% each) and aged in 60% new oak barrels.
Château Cos d'Estournel 2017 has a beautiful dark purple, almost black colour and a powerful bouquet of ripe black fruit and dried flowers enhanced with gourmand spices, jammy notes and a subtle touch of incense.
Once in the mouth, the Cos d'Estournel 2017 offers a medium body loaded with ripe and velvety tannins coating layers of fresh and energetic black fruit stretching and lining the palate until offering a finish tinged with elegant mineral notes, fabulous freshness, with remarkable persistence.

Château Cos d'Estournel also produces a second red wine, Les Pagodes de Cos.
