It is in the heart of the Saint Emilion that the Château Ausone wine estate is located. This very small vineyard, only 7 hectares, is planted with about 50% Merlot and 50% Cabernet Franc (although a micro plot of Cabernet Sauvignon is also present).
The property's small size and its meticulous harvesting methods result in very low yields, in the order of 26 hl/ha, thus leading to almost confidential production.
Raised to the rank of Premier Grand Cru Classé A in 1855, Château Ausone is one of the legends of the Bordeaux region. Its gustatory qualities, its ageing potential as well as its great rarity, make it a wine very appreciated by wine lovers.
Château Ausone 2017 is built around two grape varieties, Cabernet Franc (55%) and Merlot (45%). In the glass, it presents a very dark color, between garnet and purple, and distills an intense bouquet, full of finesse and subtlety. Noble and of great purity, Château Ausone 2017 opens slowly, distilling notes of ripe black fruit, plums and blackberries delicately wrapped in hints of flowers, leather and blond tobacco.
Relatively full-bodied on the palate, Château Ausone 2017 offers a refined attack and then gains body in the middle of the mouth, revealing a fine and granular tannic structure, accompanied by an incredible fruity freshness. The aromas of black fruits open and stretch, lining the inside of the cheeks, before revealing a long finish, full of ripe fruits, as well as hints of sap and a touch of chalk.
