Located on a vineyard of about 68 hectares in the heart of the AOC Moulis en Médoc, the vineyard of Château Poujeaux is planted with vines of 35 years of average age growing on gravelly soils of Garonnaise.
The 2016 vintage of Château Poujeaux is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon (60%), Merlot (35%) and Petit Verdot (5%), and is matured in barrels (30% of which are new) for 1 year.
From the first nose, Château Poujeaux 2016 is impressive, distilling a charming bouquet of ripe black fruits and heather, interspersed with aromas of finely wooded cigar tobacco.
On the palate, Poujeaux 2016 is moderately full-bodied. It offers a smoky mouth when first tasted, with granular tannins, then shows a structure in the middle of the mouth, followed by peppery notes of great depth, which are revealed on the finish.
Chateau Poujeau 2016 could very well exceed the 2015 vintage (which turned out to be delicious), or even exceed some of the greatest vintages of the appellation.
