The history of Château Lanessan is a family history that began a little more than two centuries ago. It all began in 1793, when Jean Delbos acquired the property and its twenty hectares of vines. Eight generations have passed through the estate, each one bringing their contribution to the establishment, until 2009, when Hubert Bouteiller retired, deciding to break with tradition and entrust the reins of the castle to his wife, Paz Espeja, in order to give the estate a new impulse.
Today, the estate of Château Lanessan covers an area of 80 hectares in one piece. The vineyard covers only a little more than half of this area, occupying a surface of 45ha of Garonne gravel. The grape varieties are Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot.
The vineyard of Château Lanessan is managed in a traditional way, respecting the environment. The property holds a level 3 High Environmental Value certification since the 2014 vintage.
In the glass, Château Lanessan 2016 has a beautiful purple color with a garnet-red rim and distils a nose bursting with black fruits, juicy blackcurrant and ripe plums, and tinged with subtle and delicate floral notes of cedar and dried herbs.
On the palate, Château Lanessan 2016 is moderately full-bodied. In the mid-palate, black fruits develop, covering the palate with a beautiful freshness, supported by a soft tannic structure and a perfectly balanced acidity. The finish, of a rare harmony, lingers for long seconds.
Château Lanessan 2016 is a great success of the vintage. It should keep and continue to evolve at least until 2030.
