Classified as a First Growth in 1855, Château Lafite Rothschild is one of the most prestigious estates in the Pauillac appellation and the Bordeaux region.
Its 112-hectare vineyard, with a magnificent south-western exposure, is composed of sandy-gravelly soils on limestone sub-soils. Its four grape varieties are dominated by Cabernet Sauvignon (70%) and complemented by Merlot (25%), Cabernet Franc (3%) and Petit Verdot (2%). The average age of the vines is over 40 years.

After manual harvesting, the grapes are vinified on a plot by plot basis in oak vats and/or thermo-regulated stainless steel vats. Blending is then followed by 18 to 20 months of ageing in new barrels made in-house by the Tonnellerie des Domaines de Rothschild.

Château Lafite Rothschild 2006 is made from a blend of only 42% of the production (82% Cabernet Sauvignon, 16% Merlot and 2% Petit Verdot). This drastic selection of the grapes used in its composition has ensured the production of an exceptionally intense wine with incredible ageing potential!

In the glass, the 2006 Chateau Lafite Rothschild has a gorgeous deep ruby/purple color and opens with an intense nose of red fruits intermixed with floral notes of roses and delicate hints of underbrush.
On the palate, the 2006 Lafite Rothschild offers a moderately full-bodied attack followed by a linear, balanced mid-palate. Its fine and velvety tannic structure envelops the red and black fruit aromas highlighted by a finely dosed acidity.
After a few seconds in the glass, Château Lafite Rothschild 2006 opens out fully. The ripe fruit aromas gradually reveal tertiary notes, deeply rich and complex: charcoal, truffles, pencil shavings mingle with blackcurrant and cedar flavors in a velvety texture to finish on a remarkably lingering finish.

The 2006 Chateau Lafite Rothschild is a monument of the Pauillac appellation. It is already in its peak of maturity, but will keep for several decades to come!
