About Château l'Evangile 2017
Bottle (75cl)

The first traces of the Château l'Evangile appear in the 1741 cadastre. It was founded by the Libourne Léglise family under the name of Fazilleau. It was much later, in the 19th century, after being sold to Mr. Isambert, that the estate changed its name to its present denomination.

The Château l'Evangile winery is located on the right bank of the Bordeaux region, on the periphery of the commune of Pomerol. Its vineyard covers 19 hectares of sandy clay and gravel soils and is surrounded by prestigious properties such as Vieux Château Certan, Château la Conseillante, Petrus or Cheval Blanc (located in Saint Emilion but which remains its closest neighbour).

Despite their absence from the 1855 classification, the wines of Château l'Evangile are among the most famous in the world. They are appreciated by amateurs for their consistency, their straightness and their firm weave. Deep and marked by black fruit aromas, L'Evangile wines are also known for their great ageing potential.

The frost at the end of April 2017 hit some parcels of the vineyard hard, so that the old vines of Cabernet Franc were completely frosted. Fortunately, the parcels on the plateau were less affected. Thus, for the first time, Château l'Evangile will be built around a 100% Merlot blend.

Château l'Evangile 2017 has a beautiful deep purple colour with intense garnet tints.
In the glass, it distills a complex and deep bouquet charged with scents of jammy black fruits rolled up in notes of forest soil, tobacco, mushrooms, and earth.
Once in the mouth, Château l'Evangile 2017 offers a medium body filled with surprisingly pure fruity aromas, enhanced by spicy notes and supported by a powerful, granular tannic structure. The black and blue fruits evolve and stretch out on the palate, to conclude on a finish of a beautiful length and letting emerge earthy notes.

The estate also produces a second wine: the Blason de l'Evangile.
