Château de Ferrand has been part of the Saint-Emilion landscape since the 17th century. Its 32 hectare vineyard is based on a deep clay soil on a limestone subsoil and benefits from a grape variety dominated by Merlot (complemented by Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon).
More recently, the owners of Château de Ferrand have undertaken major work to optimize the vineyard and modernize the cellars in order to achieve the highest standards of quality. The vines (30 years old on average) are worked in a rational way according to the principles of sustainable agriculture (mechanical ploughing, controlled yields).
All these improvements have resulted in Château de Ferrand becoming a Grand Cru Classé in the Saint-Emilion ranking in September 2012.
In the glass, Château de Ferrand 2018 shows a magnificent dark garnet red colour, almost purple.
It distills a jammy bouquet of black fruits wrapped in gourmet scents of cakes and spices. After some agitation, subtle notes of red fruit and dried herbs emerge from the glass.
On the palate, Château de Ferrand 2018 offers a full-bodied attack with a soft and velvety texture. The powerful aromas of black berries are enhanced by sweet notes of aromatic herbs that grow in the mouth leading to a long and exquisite finish.
