The Cos d' Estournel vineyard is situated between Pauillac and St-Estèphe on a hillside surrounded to the west by the Atlantic Ocean and to the east by the Gironde. This exceptional situation allows the Cos to benefit from an advantageous micro-climate, avoiding excess temperature.
It is interesting to know that the word "Cos" means "hill of stones" in old Gascony.
The Cos d' Estournel is a different St. Estèphe. Indeed, unlike most of the appellation's wines, its blend contains a high proportion of Merlot (about 40%). This gives it a richer, fleshier texture than its neighbours.
The other grape varieties included in the Cos d' Estournel blend are Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon.
The Cos d' Estournel 1982 presents a dark and intense garnet robe.
On the nose, it distils a complex bouquet of black fruits such as blackcurrant, spiced with a cocktail of spices and liquorice. More smoky notes appear on aeration.
On the palate, the Cos d' Estournel reveals a great fullness with a flawless tannic structure. The tannins are silky and finely worked.
The Cos d' Estournel 1982 is one of the greatest successes of the estate!
We will taste the Cos d' Estournel 1982 on a rib of beef, a duck breast with figs or a braised tournedos.
