Today marketed under the name Clarence de Haut Brion, 1989 Château Bahans Haut Brion is the second wine of the famous Château Haut Brion.
It is produced from a blend of Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Petit Verdot harvested on the vineyard of the Château, in the heart of the terroir of Pessac Léognan.
1989 Château Bahans Haut Brion is one of the best second wines ever produced.
It presents a superb colour without any particular sign of ageing or amber on the edge of the glass.
On the nose, Bahans Haut Brion 1989 reveals a mature bouquet full of roasted and sweet black fruits as well as tertiary touches of blond tobacco and roasted herbs.
On the palate, 1989 Bahans Haut Brion is less tannic than its big brother Haut Brion, with a silky texture, medium body, low acidity and a rich and intense aromatic structure. The mouth is filled with mature and sweet aromas of black fruits, dominated by blackcurrant, as well as tertiary notes of wood, smoke, tobacco and burnt herbs leading to a finish of remarkable length and exceptional intensity.
