Legendary estate of the Médoc, Château Phélan Ségur sits enthroned on an exceptional vineyard of 68 hectares of clayey gravel overlooking the Gironde estuary. It benefits from a micro-climate that protects it from too cold weather conditions, such as the frost in April 2017, which did not spare many of its neighbours.

The vineyard of Château Phélan Ségur benefits from a typical grape variety of the Saint-Estèphe appellation, with Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot as well as some Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. The soil and the vines are worked with respect for tradition and biodiversity, following the principles of sustainable development.

After a manual harvest followed by a double sorting, in the vineyard and in the cellar, Château Phélan Ségur 2017 benefited from a fermentation in temperature-controlled stainless steel vats and then an ageing period of 14 to 18 months in oak barrels (50% of which are new).

Made from a blend dominated by 65% Cabernet Sauvignon, supplemented by 34% Merlot and 1% Cabernet Franc, Château Phélan Ségur 2017 is a perfectly mastered wine of great classicism.
In the glass, it has a magnificent deep purple color with garnet-red tints.
On the nose, it distils a concentrated bouquet, bursting with juicy red and black fruits, which reveal subtle toasty notes after a few seconds of aeration.
Lively and spirited on the attack, Château Phélan Ségur 2017 opens with an incredible palette of ripe and intense fruit. Its tannic structure, fine and rectilinear, gives it an incredibly solid structure, supporting all the aromatic power of the fruit until it ends on a finish that is as elegant and fragrant as it is long and persistent.

Still a little young, the Phélan Ségur 2017 should reach its peak of maturity in the coming years and will continue to evolve for a good twenty years in the cellar.
