The history of Château Valandraud began in 1989, when Jean-Luc Thunevin and Murielle Andraud bought a tiny 0.6 hectare plot in Saint-Emilion, between the properties of Pavie Macquin and La Clotte. Since then, the Château Valandraud vineyard has continued to expand to an area of almost 9 hectares composed of clayey-limestone soils and siliceous gravel.
After a difficult start producing "garage wines" (according to the critics of the time), Château Valandraud is now known for its exceptional qualities. Although it has no rank in the official classification, it is considered by the greatest professionals as one of the best wines in Bordeaux!
Château Valandraud 2018 has a magnificent deep purple colour, almost black.
Quite shy on the first nose, it slowly reveals a complex bouquet of small black and red fruits, cooked and candied, wrapped in warm and spicy floral scents as well as woody and toasted touches.
Full-bodied on the attack, Château Valandraud 2018 offers a palate of exceptional richness and breadth. The aromas of ripe black fruit explode in the mouth, supported by a fine, satiny tannic line highlighting the great freshness of the blend. The layers of fruit continue to evolve in the middle palate before showing all their exuberance on a delicious finish and an incredible length!
Château Valandraux 2018 already promises to be one of the masterpieces of the vintage!
