In 1989, the spouses Jean-Luc Thunevin and Murielle Andraud, simple autodidacts, decided to produce their own wine. They then acquired a tiny 0.6 hectare plot in the heart of the Saint-Emilion appellation (near the Pavie-Macquin vineyard) and produced their first wine two years later, in 1991.
A few years later, in 1995, the wines produced by the couple obtained Parker scores higher than the 1st Grand Crus Classés such as Cheval Blanc or Ausone!
Today, a few decades later, the Château Valandraux vineyard extends over an area of more than 10 hectares spread over several parcels made up of clayey-limestone and siliceous-gravelly soil.
Château Valandraud 2017 has a superb dark purple colour with ruby tints. On the nose, it exudes a distinguished bouquet of crushed red and black fruits as well as tertiary notes of roasted cocoa, tar and liquorice.
On the palate, Château Valandraud 2017 offers a moderately full-bodied palate. The red and black fruits on the nose develop quickly, releasing a beautiful freshness, counterbalanced by a firm and ripe tannic structure.
