Overlooking a 45-hectare vineyard of clayey gravel located in the heart of the Pessac-Léognan appellation, the Domaine de Chevalier's land is surrounded by a dense forest creating a singular microclimate. The high trees that encircle it have the effect of retaining heat in the summer, facilitating the full ripening of the fruit, but also favour frost in the winter.

Considering these unique constraints, which imply a great humility towards nature and the elements, we can better understand the estate's motto: "Man is only a revealer, the terroir dominates everything".

The 2017 vintage was not spared by the April frosts, which could have been catastrophic if the summer weather had not been so favourable, allowing the grapes to be harvested early, at perfect ripeness.

After a manual harvest followed by a meticulous sorting of the grapes, the juices were vinified in stainless steel tanks before excluding half of them from the final blend. Maturing then took place in oak barrels (35% of which were new).

Made from a blend dominated by 70% Cabernet Sauvignon with 25% Merlot and 5% Petit Verdot, Domaine de Chevalier 2017 has a superb deep, intense garnet-purple colour.
On the nose, it delivers a complex, fragrant bouquet of cooked black fruits (cherries, plums) wrapped in violets, dried herbs, and earthy aromas.
On the palate, Domaine de Chevalier 2017 opens with a moderately full-bodied attack. Fresh, juicy fruit aromas reveal power and complexity in the mid-palate, supported by a round, velvety tannic structure, and a long, incredibly lively finish!

Rich and perfectly balanced, Domaine de Chevalier 2017 already has all the assets of a great wine. Made for ageing, it will continue to evolve and gain in complexity over the next 20 years.
