It was in the 18th century, in Pomerol, that Clos l'Eglise was born. Originally covering 14 hectares of land, the property has now become part of the Garcin-Cathiard family's heritage and now covers only six hectares. Its vineyard is based on a terroir made up of clayey-gravelly soils and iron slag. It is planted with 70% Merlot and 30% Cabernet Franc.
Made from a blend of incredibly mature Merlot and Cabernet Franc, Clos l'Eglise 2019 was vinified in 100% new oak barrels.
In the glass, Clos l'Eglise 2019 has a lovely deep purple colour with a garnet red rim and distils a bouquet which opens after a few shakes of the glass releasing various floral notes (roses, violets, ...) coating a core of cooked and jammy black fruits. After a few seconds of aeration, tertiary notes of spices and dried herbs emerge, bringing a touch of elegance and complexity to the nose.
On the palate, the Clos l'Eglise 2019 is moderately full-bodied. Plum and blackberry aromas offer great freshness developing in the mid-palate, supported by a velvety tannic structure to end on a deliciously long and mineral finish.
