The Vieux Château Certan is a vintage of long tradition, it is the oldest vintage of Pomerol.
The estate was founded in the 16th century by the Demay family. In 1924, the estate was bought by Georges Thienpont who entrusted its management to his heirs in 1957.
In addition to being the oldest vintage of the AOC Pomerol, the Vieux Château Certan is also one of the estates cultivating the greatest Cabernet Sauvignon, where its neighbours have been growing for years now almost exclusively Merlot for its undeniable commercial qualities (the Merlot being more flattering during the first years of ageing).

The 2016 vintage of the Vieux Château Certan is composed of 85% Merlot, 14% Cabernet Franc and 1% Cabernet Sauvignon harvested with a yield of about 40 hectoliters per hectare.

On the nose, it is particularly refined, distilling aromas of black fruits, morello cherry and heather, initially rather condensed in the glass but opening up as the aeration progresses.
On the palate, the Vieux Château Certan 2016 is moderately full-bodied, with fine tannins.
The black fruits explode in the mouth as soon as they attack, mixed with laurel and tea.
This Vieux Château Certan 2016 is a complex and singular Pomerol, ending with a long and succulent finish.

As with all Vieux Château Certan, it will require many years of ageing to reveal its full potential.
