The Château de Pitray, a family estate since the 14th century, is now the property of the Comte and Comtesse de Boigne.
Located in the Côtes-de-Castillon appellation (also known as Castillon-Côtes-de-Bordeaux), its vineyard in a single plot extends over 33 hectares of south-facing clay-limestone terroir. The estate's grape varieties are dominated by Merlot (around 75%) and complemented by Cabernet Franc and a little Malbec.
Made from a blend of 100% Cabernet Franc, Château de Pitray 2016 shows a beautiful garnet colour with ruby reflections.
On the nose, it opens on a full and elegant bouquet of black fruits, morello cherries, blackberries and blackcurrants as well as notes of forest soil and various spices.
On the palate, the Château de Pitray 2016 offers a moderate attack. The mid-palate expresses itself on the richness of ripe and juicy black fruits coated with spices and supported by a tannic line work finely worked and rather similar to the wines of the Loire Valley.
The finish, although a little too short, proves to be delicious and shows all the know-how of this little-known estate!
