The Château d' Armailhac is located in the heart of the Pauillac appellation. Each year, the same four grape varieties are used in its composition (Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Petit Verdot) but in different proportions. The proportion of Cabernet Sauvignon in the final blend is often higher than the vine variety of the vineyard (about 60% of Cabernet Sauvignon against 40% for the other 3).
Formerly called Mouton d' Armailhac, Mouton Baron Philippe and then Mouton Baronne Philippe, Cinquième Cru Classé de pauillac, relatively unknown, benefits from manual harvesting and maturing in oak barrels for an average of 15 to 16 months.
The Château d' Armailhac 2006 has a beautiful intense red colour, with ruby highlights.
On the nose, it instantly gives off a great freshness and powerful aromas of ripe red fruit with subtle woody notes, as well as vanilla and a hint of toast.
On the palate, the Château d' Armailhac 2006 has a perfect structure with fine, silky and supple tannins. Very ample on the palate, it distils complex aromas of fruit passing from blackberry to fresh mint with an incredible precision until the finish which would have been a little more persistent.
The Château d' Armailhac 2006 is nevertheless a great Pauillac wine, which will benefit from staying a few years in the cellar!
