The history of Château Maucaillou began in 1875 with a small vineyard of barely 5 hectares. Bought in 1929 by the Dourthe family, the vineyard was quickly expanded by about 15 hectares in 1967 to finally reach 87 hectares today.

Located in the heart of the Moulis appellation, the Château Maucaillou vineyard stretches over a magnificent terroir of gravelly hilltops with a clay-limestone subsoil. The grape varieties are typical of the appellation, with Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Petit Verdot. The vineyard is worked according to the principles of sustainable viticulture, with minimal use of treatments, regular ploughing of the soil and manual harvesting.

The wines of Château Maucaillou are vinified and matured in ultra-modern cellars allowing a cold vinification and fermentation process, capable of extracting all the aromas of the grape as well as the finesse and velvety smoothness of its tannins.

The 2019 vintage of Château Maucaillou is based on a blend of equal parts Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. The wine is aged in oak barrels, 40% of which are new.

In the glass, Chateau Maucaillou 2019 has a beautiful deep purple color and a full, complex bouquet of cooked and candied black fruits wrapped in notes of licorice and various spices as well as a hint of cedar wood.
On the palate, Château Maucaillou 2019 opens with a moderate attack before developing and opening out in the mid-palate. The black fruit core (plums, blackberries, blueberries) offers a beautiful freshness, perfectly supported and balanced by the soft and velvety texture of the fine tannins. Rich and perfectly structured, Château Maucaillou 2019 concludes on an energetic finish with elegant toasted notes.
