First Growth since 1855, Château Lafaurie Peyraguey occupies a vineyard with a gravel and limestone soil that is as extensive (41 ha) as it is fragmented. The estate's grape varieties are dominated by Semillon (90%), the rest being Sauvignon Blanc and Muscadelle (8% and 2% respectively).
The fragmentation of the vineyard offers a wide variety of exposures to the vines, contributing both to the complexity of the wine and to its impressive regularity over the vintages.
As with all Sauternes sweet wines, the harvest is carried out by hand in successive stages in the vines in order to harvest only the grapes with the highest concentration of noble rot (botrytis cinerea). This is followed by gentle pressing and fermentation in oak barrels before maturing for 18 to 20 months depending on the vintage.
Château Lafaurie Peyraguey 2017 has a magnificent golden yellow colour with sparkling reflections. It has a rich and complex nose full of citrus fruit, grapefruit and lime aromas, wrapped in a tertiary touch of musk and asian spices. The palate is as rich and full as the nose. The aromas of citrus fruits and zest gain in intensity in the middle palate, bringing an incredible freshness to the blend. The remarkably long finish also reveals subtle earthy notes.
