"I discovered the Cru d' Arche Pugneau last Christmas. It was a huge surprise!
The 2003 Cru d' Arche Pugneau is a sweet wine with aromas of exotic fruits, peaches, plums and mirabelles covered with candied notes and woody touches that appear after a few minutes of aeration."
The Cru d' Arche Pugneaux is a wine little known by the general public and yet, it is one of the great wines of the Sauternes appellation.
Its 90 and 91 vintages (the only ones to have been noted by Robert Parker) were rated 88 and 91 respectively.
The "tries exceptionnelles" are the top-of-the-range wines of the estate. They are matured for at least 3 years in oak barrels and are similar to "natural" wines, as long as no addition is added.
The Cru d' Arche Pugneau 2003 Trie Exceptionnelle plays in the same range as many great wines of Sauternes.
It is composed of a blend of Sauvignon Blanc and Semillon.
Liquorous and heavy on the palate, the 2003 Cru d' Arche Pugneau distils a complex aromatic range of apricot and honey.
It is a wine perfectly balanced between the freshness of the fruit and the velvety and greedy sensation of honey.
It also has a particularly high ageing potential, like the great Sauternes.
The Cru d' Arche Pugneau will be enjoyed around a dish of blue cheeses or a fruity dessert.
