Located on the top of a clay-limestone hillside of the Saint Emilion appellation, the Château Balestard la Tonnelle vineyard extends over 10.6 hectares planted with Merlot (70%), Cabernet Franc (25%) and Cabernet Sauvignon (5%).
The 2017 vintage of Château Balestard la Tonnelle is made from a blend of 70% Merlot, completed with Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon (25% and 5%) before being aged in 50% new barrels and 50% 18 months old.
In the glass, it shows a beautiful deep purple color with reflections pulling on the garnet.
On the nose, Château Balestard la Tonnelle reveals an ample and elegant bouquet, full of small black and red fruits (cherries, blueberries) and floral notes of violets. After some agitations of subtle aniseed touches seem to escape from the glass in turn.
On the palate, Château Balestard la Tonnelle 2017 is medium-bodied and incredibly pure. The fruits aromas on the nose, perfectly transcribed and enhanced with notes of various spices, are supported by a fine and silky tannic structure. Rich and fresh, Château Balestard la Tonnelle 2017 ends on a long and tasty finish.
