Produced from a blend of 100% Chardonnay Vieilles Vignes, on the small plot of Les Tremblots, Hubert Lamy's Puligny Montrachet Les Tremblots is one of the greatest successes of the 2017 vintage.
Situated in the south-west of the Puligny Montrachet appellation, on a hillside of marl and limestone, the Tremblots plot covers an area of less than one hectare. The vines are only old vines of at least 50 years old (90 years old for the oldest).
Like all the plots on the estate, it is worked according to the principles of sustainable viticulture with regular ploughing and no chemical treatments.
The manual harvest is followed by a meticulous sorting of the grapes. The grapes are then crushed in order to restore all the essence of the fruit before vinification in semi-muids or oak barrels. The wine is bottled only after 12 to 18 months of ageing.
In the glass, the Puligny Montrachet Les Tremblots Hubert Lamy 2017 has a magnificent pale yellow colour with golden reflections and distils a rich and fresh bouquet of yellow and white stone fruits, citrus fruits to which are added delicate floral notes of acacia as well as mineral and chalky touches. After a few minutes of aeration, greedy scents of butters and various spices invite themselves and add a touch of complexity to the nose.
On the palate, the Puligny Montrachet Les Tremblots Hubert Lamy 2017 offers a moderately full-bodied attack followed by a lively, fresh and greedy mid-palate. The fruit aromas present on the nose are faithfully retranscribed on the palate and enhanced by a perfectly balanced acidic structure. The old vines give this 2017 vintage a dense, massive and very fine texture that quickly covers the palate, growing until it finishes on a remarkably long, airy and mineral finish.
The Puligny Montrachet Les Tremblots Hubert Lamy 2017 will go wonderfully well with rich fish, seafood, poultry, or even a soft cheese platter.
