Mars Easter

Built in 1985, the Mars distillery located in Miyata in the district of Nagano in Japan, is part of the Hombo Shuzo Ltd group, founded in 1872.

Its founder, Kiichiro Iwai, is at the origin of the departure for England of Masataka Taketsuru, the founder of Nikka whiskies in 1934.

Hombo Shuzo started to produce 'Shochu', a Japanese liqueur distilled mainly from rice, in 1909.

In 1949, the company obtained a license, and they started to produce whisky in the distillery of Kagoshima, in the southeast of Japan.

Hombo Co. set out to do just that: "One day I want to make a real whisky that takes advantage of the Japanese climate."
Thus, the Mars distillery, which is located in the Japanese Alps at an altitude of 798 meters, meets all the criteria.
The climate is cool and misty, thus the water from melted snow and rain is of excellent quality : rich in natural minerals, after being filtered by the granite soil of the region.

Mars was founded to produce the best Japanese whisky under the best natural climatic conditions. This is what Hajime Kuuchi, the master blender of Mars whisky, is trying to prolong.

Mars whisky offers a very nice range of Single Malt whisky, Blends and Blended Malt. The use of many specific casks and a very Japanese technicality produces a superb range to Mars whisky.
Did you know that contrary to some preconceived ideas, lamb will marry perfectly with a red wine?

Contrary to a long-held principle that has fortunately fallen into disuse today, lamb meat, although white, will ideally go well with a red wine, and preferably a Bordeaux. Care should be taken to avoid all wines that are too concentrated and full of new wood. On the contrary, one will look for elegant tannins and a vivacity that one will find more easily in the soils of the Medoc or Graves.

And for chocolate dessert ?
If the white wine, and the red wine, can abound with aromas of chocolate, typical of mature wines, one also finds more opulent wines proposing this roasted aroma. The wines will have to compose with a certain sweetness in order to "fight" with cocoa. This is why we prefer a "mutated" wine, if possible on an old vintage, or a rosé champagne, acidulated and fruity.
