After his grandfather's death, Joseph Roty inherited a few vines in Gevrey-Chambertin and founded his estate at the end of the 1960s. Since his death (in 2008) his sons, Philippe and Pierre-Jean Roty, now manage the estate.

Based on a know-how that has spanned 11 generations of winegrowers, Domaine Joseph Roty is managed with a concern for authenticity and tradition: the vineyard is worked with respect for the environment and biodiversity (with minimal use of chemical treatments) and the wines are cold vinified in concrete vats before being matured in oak barrels for 15 to 16 months.

The Gevrey-Chambertin Domaine Joseph Roty 2017 is produced from a blend of 100% Pinot Noir from four parcels located in Champerrier du Bas, Charreux, Les Crais and La Platière.

In the glass, it has a beautiful deep, dark garnet/purple color.
On the nose, it distils a lovely bouquet of red and black berries (cherries, black currants) accompanied by tertiary notes of dark chocolate, earth, and licorice.
On the palate, the 2017 Gevrey-Chambertin Domaine Joseph Roty is moderately full-bodied. It offers a rich, full-bodied mouthfeel supported by supple, silky tannins and a remarkably well-balanced acidity line.

Still a little young, the Gevrey-Chambertin Domaine Joseph Roty 2017 will benefit from being cellared for a few years before tasting. It is a wine for long cellaring and will remain at its peak of maturity until at least 2040!
