The history of Domaine Joseph Roty begins with a few vines inherited from his grandfather in the late 1960s. Since Joseph Roty's death in 2008, the estate has been managed by his sons, Philippe and Pierre-Jean.

The vineyard of Domaine Joseph Roty is worked according to the principles of sustainable viticulture, with minimal use of chemical treatments and regular ploughing of the land. The estate's wines are cold vinified in concrete vats before maturing in oak barrels for 15 to 16 months depending on the needs of the vintage.

Produced from a 100% Pinot Noir blend from one of the most beautiful plots on the estate, the Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Les Fontenys Domaine Joseph Roty 2017 shows a magnificent deep garnet/purple colour.
On the nose, it reveals a rich, complex bouquet of black berries (cherries, black currants), licorice, grilled meat, and elegant touches of earth and forest floor.
On the palate, the 2017 Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Les Fontenys Domaine Joseph Roty is full-bodied and layered. Concentrated black fruit aromas are enhanced by a ripe, grainy, enveloping tannic structure.

Still in its prime youth, the Gevrey-Chambertin Les Fontenys 2017 from Domaine Joseph Roty will benefit from a few years in the cellar before being opened. It has been made for long cellaring and will gain in maturity for decades (at least 2050).
