About Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru Domaine Joseph Roty Cuvée de Très Vieilles Vignes 2017
Bottle (75cl)

Founded at the end of the 1960s in Gevrey-Chabertin by Joseph Roty from vines inherited from his grandfather, the family estate is now managed by his sons, Philippe and Pierre-Jean Roty. They are the 11th generation of winegrowers in the family.

Full of history and tradition, the estate's oldest vines were planted in 1881 in the Charmes-Chambertin appellation. These hundred-year-old Pinot Noir vines have become a signature of Domaine Joseph Roty.

The Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru Cuvée de Très Vieilles Vignes 2017 is a blend of 100% Pinot Noir. Harvested at high maturity, the grapes were de-stemmed before cold fermentation in concrete vats and then vinification in oak barrels (mostly new) for 15 to 16 months.

In the glass, the Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru Domaine Joseph Roty Cuvée de Très Vieilles Vignes 2017 has a magnificent deep garnet-purple color.
From the first nose, it exhibits an incredibly fresh, complex bouquet of black fruits (black currants, blackberries, and plums) intermixed with gourmet notes of dark chocolate, licorice, truffles, and various spices.
On the palate, the Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru Cuvée de Très Vieilles Vignes 2017 offers a full-bodied attack followed by a complex, velvety mid-palate. The black fruits mingle with silky tannins in a caressing texture and are supported by a line of lively and perfectly balanced acidity. The fruit aromas quickly coat the palate, evolving and growing to end on an exceptionally long and persistent finish.

Made for long cellaring, the Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru Domaine Joseph Roty "Cuvée de Très Vieilles Vignes" 2017 still deserves a few more years in cellar to show its full potential. Its peak of maturity will surely be counted in decades.
