The Carruades de Lafite is the second wine of Château Lafite Rothschild. Originally named Moulin des Carruades, it was named after its vineyard, located on the plateau of Les Carruades, a group of parcels of Pauillac not far from the Château Lafite Rothschild estate.
The vineyard is mainly planted with Cabernet Sauvignon (71%), the rest being divided between Merlot (25%), Cabernet Franc (3%) and Petit Verdot (1%). All these vines are on average 40 years old.
The Carruades de lafite 2002 is a dark purple coloured wine.
On the nose, it is very close to Lafite Rothschild perfume. It has a bouquet reminiscent of wild berries, with red and black currants, plum and cherry aromas. This fruit cocktail is wrapped in a touch of lead pencil and wood.
In the mouth, the Carruades de Lafites is less concentrated than its illustrious older brother. It is a medium-bodied wine, which may seem a bit austere. Nevertheless, after decanting it and letting it rest for a few hours, it finally opened up and gave it its full potential!
The Carruades de Lafite 2002 will perfectly accompany a cheese aged to a powerful taste.
