About Champagne Nicolas Maillart Franc de Pied 1er Cru 2012

Nicolas Maillart's Cuvée Franc de Pied 1er Cru 2012 is unique in many ways: it is produced around a unique grape variety, Pinot Noir, harvested on a unique plot of land in the village of Ecueil.
Finally, as its name indicates, the grapes contained in this cuvée come from "Old French Vines" planted in "francs de pied". Very rare nowadays, these vines were able to escape the ravages of phylloxera without having to resort to the American rootstock that saved the Champagne vineyards in the 19th century and which has since spread throughout the Champagne region.

Made exclusively from Pinot Noir, the Champagne Nicolas Maillart Franc de Pied 1er Cru 2012 was vinified in oak barrels and aged for 8 months on lees.

In the glass, it has an elegant yellow colour with copper highlights, crossed by a string of fine bubbles forming a mantle of delicate foam.
On the nose, the Champagne Nicolas Maillart Franc de Pied 1er Cru 2012 distils a rich and intense bouquet. The Pinot Noir reveals here all its aromatic power, with notes of ripe yellow and white fruits coated with notes of caramel and milk. After a few swirls in the glass, notes of wood and smoke emerge in turn, in a harmonious complexity.
On the palate, the Champagne Nicolas Maillart Franc de Pied 2012 offers an incredibly fresh attack. Its soft and dense texture contrasts with its exceptional aromatic power. The ripe and juicy fruit on the nose is perfectly transcribed on the palate, sublimated by a superb mineral touch that fully unfolds on the remarkably long and distinguished finish.
