About Château Haut-Brion 2017
Bottle (75cl)

Raised to the rank of First Growth in 1855, Château Haut Brion is one of the legends of Graves wines. Situated on the Pessac Léognan appellation, its wine estate faces its long-standing rival, Château la Mission Haut Brion, even sharing a common border with it.

The 2017 vintage was not favourable for many Bordeaux vineyards, but fortunately the geographical situation of the two neighbouring properties protected them from the frost at the end of April, affecting only one hectare of the 80 hectares they share. However, the rains in mid-September were more problematic. Occurring after the full maturity of the Merlot plants, it did affect the Cabernet Franc plants, which will therefore be little used in the composition of Château Haut Brion this year.

Château Haut Brion 2017 is a blend of Merlot (53%) and Cabernet Sauvignon (40.7%) with only 6.3% Cabernet Franc.
It has a superb, very dark and deep robe, almost black, and reveals a nose that is still shy and full of aromas of small black fruits, such as blackberries and blackcurrants, mixed with elegant notes of dark chocolate, spices and violets. After a few minutes in the glass, more subtle notes of earth and wood emerge as well.
Unlike the nose, the mouth shows a beautiful extravagance. Medium-bodied and with a beautiful tannic structure, Château Haut Brion 2017 offers a firm and velvety texture, filled with layers of ripe black fruit rolled up in earthy notes and concludes with a long and persistent finish, revealing deliciously refined mineral notes.

Château Haut Brion also produces two second wines: the Clarence de Haut Brion (red) and La Clareté de Haut Brion (white).
